Rota Privacy Policy

Last updated 23 August 2026

Rota does not collect your data. There is no account, no server, and no analytics service. Everything the app does happens on your iPhone.

No health data, ever

Rota does not read or write Apple Health. It has no HealthKit entitlement, so it cannot see your sleep records, your heart rate, your steps or anything else Health holds, and it never asks you for access. It does not read your calendar either. The only thing Rota knows about your working life is the shift times you type in yourself.

What is stored on your device

Rota saves the following locally, using Apple's on-device database and the standard iOS settings store:

This data never leaves your device. It is not backed up to any server operated by us. If your iPhone is included in an iCloud or encrypted local backup, this data may be included in that backup, under Apple's control and covered by Apple's privacy policy.

Deleting the app deletes all of it, permanently. There is no copy anywhere else.

Permissions

Rota requests no system permissions at all. It does not ask for your contacts, your location, your camera, your microphone, your photos, your calendar, Health, notifications or tracking. There is nothing for you to grant or revoke.

Guidance, not a diagnosis

Rota gives general guidance on the timing of sleep and light for people working shifts. It is not a medical device. It does not diagnose or treat anything, it does not assess or screen you for any condition, and it is not a substitute for advice from a doctor or occupational health professional. The plans it produces are calculated from the shift times you enter and ordinary published advice about sleep and light timing. If sleep is seriously affecting your health or your safety, please speak to a doctor.

Subscriptions

Rota Pro is sold through Apple's In-App Purchase system. We never see your payment details, your name, or your Apple Account. Apple tells the app one thing only: whether a valid subscription is currently active. Apple's handling of purchase data is governed by Apple's privacy policy.

Tracking and advertising

Rota contains no advertising, no third-party SDKs, no tracking pixels, and no cross-app or cross-site tracking of any kind. The App Tracking Transparency prompt is never shown because there is nothing to ask you about.

Children

Rota is rated 4+. Because the app collects no data at all, it collects no data from children either. There is no messaging, no user-generated content shared with anyone, and no way for one user to contact another.

Your rights

Regulations such as the GDPR and the CCPA give you rights to access, correct and delete personal data held about you. We hold none, so there is nothing for us to return or erase. The data described above is on your own device and entirely under your control — you can view it in the app, edit it, and delete it by deleting the app.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this address and the date at the top will change. If a future version of Rota ever collects anything, that change will be described here before it ships, and in the app's release notes.
